Demonical release Death Infernal

Today I picked up a copy of Demonical‘s new album, Death Infernal which dropped from Cyclone Empire here in North America on July 19th. This is a band I am completely unfamiliar with and if it wasn’t for Metal Underground I’d never have discovered their existence.

Now, I’m always sceptical when listening to a new band for the first time and this was the case with Demonical. I’ve never heard of the band before so I didn’t know what to expect except darkness, based on the album artwork.

The first notes of The Arrival of Armageddon tell you that the album artwork is a good representation of the band’s sound as they are dark… As fuck! This is a sound I totally dig. The Arrival of Armageddon is super fast paced and really gets the listener’s blood pumping, makes you want to start a massive pit and hurt people, including yourself. I’m a huge fan of metal that makes you feel like you’re at the bottom of an ancient well with the cover on so no light can get in. Listening to this album with my headphones on and my eyes closed literally felt like that. If you’re into black metal at all you’ll love Demonical’s “Death Infernal”. They aren’t exactly a speed metal band and if you’re used to new death metal you’re going to be surprised to hear their sound which is called death metal. This is old school death. Personally though, I prefer to call this black metal. It’s dark… It’s gloomy. It’s black!

Death Infernal was recorded at Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden and the track listing is as follows :

1) The Arrival of Armageddon
2) Return in Flesh
3) Black Inferno
4) Ravenous
5) March for Victory
6) Through Hellfire
7) All Will Perish (The Final Liberation)
8) Slain Warriors
9) Darkness Awaits
10) From Northern Shores
11) Night of the Graveless Souls

The first seven tracks, with the exception of the opening track, on Death Infernal are all slow-burning flames of hatred and anger that have been laid down in the form of delicious black metal riffs and drum beats that Satan himself would be proud of. This leads to Slain Warriors which is a faster paced tune, more suiting for the metalhead who enjoys a good mosh with his black metal which is accented by my favorite bit of guitar work from this album, a very short burst of shredding energy that keeps the blood rushing to the head of my cock. Next in line to pummel the listener of this album is the intense double-time of Darkness Awaits. Now this is what I want my black metal to sound like! This track is very fast and very death-metal! There’s nothing I love more than a false ending that leads into a grinding, sludgy breakdown… And this is a perfect example of just that. Darkness Awaits is a must hear for any metalhead.

The final two tracks on the album are just as good as Darkness Awaits, with From Northern Shores being melodic and slow, the kind of metal that makes you want to smash peoples’ faces with the hammer of Thor and Night of the Graveless Souls brings the album to a very good close, leaving you wanting more of this brand of fast paced blackened death metal. This band reminds me a lot of Amon Amarth with the style of music they play and the vocalist’s sound being similar. This is a band I’m definitely going to look farther into and one you should also take note of if you have yet to do so.

My rating for Death Infernal: 3.5/5, nothing I haven’t heard before, not a game changer but definitely a solid album by a talented band, worth looking into.

Cheers,
Martin
